Technology at Ellis & Thompson Optometrists

We continually invest in state-of-the-art equipment. Generally only seen in the finest eye hospitals around the world as well as, intergalactically on the International Space Station; this incredible technology is now available to all our patients.

Heidelberg Spectrailis 4D OCT Scan

An Optical Coherence Tomography Scan, more commonly known as an OCT scan, is a medical imaging technique that uses light to generate a detailed three-dimensional view of the different layers of your eye.

Humphrey Visual Field Analyser

The Humphrey Visual Field Analyser is the gold standard of visual field screening typically found in private eye hospitals. The Humphrey Visual Field Analyser allows us to map the peripheral vision of the eye which is important for evaluating eye conditions including Glaucoma.

Goldmann Applanation Tonometry

Goldmann Applanation Tonometry is currently considered to be the Gold Standard method of measuring the pressure inside your eyes (the intraocular pressure or IOP).

Corneal Pachymetry

Corneal Pachymetry, the technique of measuring corneal thickness, is a quick and painless test involving an ultrasound scan of the front and back corneal surfaces to obtain a corneal thickness reading.

Corneal Topography

A corneal topographer creates a 3D map of the corneal surface so that the shape of the entire cornea can be viewed and analysed. In addition to contact lens fitting, topography can also be used to diagnose certain eye conditions, such as keratoconus.

Fundus Autofluorescence

Fundus Autofluorescence is an imaging technique that assesses the retina at a metabolic level and can be used to detect certain eye diseases which may not yet be visible when viewing the retina with more traditional methods.

Clinical Eye Tracker

This equipment is particularly beneficial in detecting subtle defects which could potentially cause significant difficulties and discomfort. It would be especially useful in children or adults with reading difficulties or who may be exhibiting signs such as lack of concentration or headaches after long periods of screen use.

Intuitive Colourimeter

Colourimetry is the systematic process of accurately prescribing precision tinted lenses from thousands of possible colour combinations. The Intuitive Colorimeter allows us to determine the exact hue, saturation, and brightness of colour that alleviates symptoms of visual stress, migraines, and other neurological symptoms.
